BlazBlue: Continuum Shift continues shortly after the happenings of BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger. It also continues the tradition that the actual happenings are only revealed while playing through the storyline of each individual character. This versus fighter is played on a 2D plane. Two characters face each other and try to win the match (best of five). In order to win a round, the player either needs to reduce the opponent's to zero or have more health left when the timer runs out. Besides a number of standard attacks, each character also has individual special attacks (called drives) which require filling the heat gauge with actions like attacking or blocking first.
