Cinders is a visual novel, retelling an alternate version of the Cinderella fairy tale. The player takes the role of Cinder, living with her stepmother and two stepsisters, however unlike the original fairy tale, it is up to the player to decide the fate of Cinders by selecting choices that may or may not affect the overall progress of the story and final outcome. The story is largely told through text with backgrounds, drawings of the characters and small animations. There are lesser and more important choices that eventually lead to four different endings. Based on certain choices up to eight achievements can be unlocked as well.
